WATER

Clonakilty town is served by Clonakilty Regional Water Supply, a major scheme completed in l983. The water consists of rapid-gravity sand filtration, fluoridation, chloridisation, and Ph correction. This scheme has a capacity of 2 million gallons per day, with a current maximum demand of 1.3 million gallons, reached during the summer months. The reservoir serving the town has a top water level of 220 ft. and a capacity of 5 million gallons. The pumps serving the reservoir have a capability of supplying 400,000 gallons and current maximum demand is 230,000 gallons.

SEWERAGE

Clonakilty town is served by a £2.5 m sewerage scheme completed in 1988. The scheme incorporates a modern activated sludge effluent treatment plant, consisting of oxidation ditches, settling tanks, and sludge dewatering to cater for domestic and industrial effluent loading from an immediate population equivalent of 5333 people, with the facility to expand to an 8000 population equivalent.

ELECTRICITY

Supply voltages at 10 KV and 380/220 volts are available in and around the town of Clonakilty. A 38 KV station supply is located approximately l.5 miles on the north side of the town.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS

Telecom Eireann with it's advanced national network provides Ireland with highly efficient international telecommunications. Clonakilty is served by digital exchanges, optic fibre links, full international direct dial facilities and offers a sophisticated range of telecommunication services from packet switched data transmission, to computer interfaced telex, to high speed digital data links.

The area is served by a transatlantic optic fibre cable which comes ashore in south Cork linking North America, Ireland and the rest of Europe, this complements the satellite earth station based in Cork.

COMMERCIAL SERVICES

Insurance, legal accounting, printing and other commercial services are available. The Allied Irish Bank, Bank of Ireland, Trustee Savings Bank and the Credit Union all have branches in Clonakilty.

HOUSING

There is a ready market in good quality housing, and serviced land is available for building from Clonakilty Urban District Council and from private land owners. There are a number of registered building contractors in the town.
