ADMINISTRATION
Clonakilty has had an Urban District Council since 1899 which has overseen vast developments in the town. Organisations, such as the Enterprise Board and Tidy Towns, under the auspices of the Urban Council have worked diligently to improve every facet of the town. Clonakilty is also the home of Cork County Council, the West Cork Administration Headquarters (Housing and Sanitary) and the West Cork County Enterprise Board. The local economy was traditionally agriculture based, but in recent years has developed to incorporate a wide range of industrial activities, such as Plastic Moulding, Engineering and General Manufacturing.
