HOW CAN AN EMILY DOG ENRICH
THE LIFE OF A DISABLED
PERSON?
 |
Often reaching to the floor to retrieve a dropped object is very difficult
for a disabled person. |
- The dogs can retrieve all kinds of objects, such as TV controls, portable
phones, spectacles, newspapers, mail and even empty and load the washing
machine.
- The dogs can open doors both in the mental and physical sense.
- The dogs can speak on command, so giving the person a means of getting
attention in times of trouble.
- The dogs can activate light switches.
- The dogs can walk in rigid harness and balance a person whose balance
condition causes an unsteady walk. ie. MS sufferers.

One of the most important things is that dogs give unconditional loyalty and
love. Sometimes disabled people live very lonely lives due to the confinement
caused by their condition. A constant companion is a gift which a value could
not be put on.
Trained dogs give independence and security.
The above are only a few examples of what specially trained dogs can do for
a disabled person. These dogs can be placed with anyone with a disability
however serious or minor.
